J. Gregory Macdonald of Pembroke, a cameraman for WGBH-TV, Channel 2, for 33 years, died Friday of heart disease in Greenbelt, Md. He was 56.

Mr. Macdonald, who was born in Newburyport, died as he was working on a story. He had been a cameraman and engineer at WGBH since 1963. He was also a free-lance cameraman for Channel 5.

    FWIW At the time of his death he was out of town shooting for a national program, but cannot say specifically which project he was working on
